Pros: HD tuner built-in. Customizable, expandable, easy instructions, easy install, loaded with features. Cons: Radio industry needs to hurry up providing more HD channels!
It is true that once you go HD, you never go back. So after experiencing HDTV for 18 months now, I wanted HD in any format I could get it, including radio. Thanks to JVC, you can now enjoy high quality digital audio without paying a high price. At ...
Pros: HD radio, low cost, good sound quality Cons: Auxiliary input requires extra components, screen not very fancy
When I was shopping for a new receiver for my car, I wasn't actively looking for an HD radio -- I just needed a head unit with a subwoofer output, as my previous radio, a l

Pros: Price at $199, easy to install, text is large, HD sounds incredible and aesthetically pleasing. Cons: No RDS, too little volume knob, and I recommend reading the manual. That's it!
After looking around for a new head unit I decided to go with one that pulled HD Radio also. Most were pretty expensive, especially since we only have one station here that is in HD. Checked at www.Crutchfield.com, (which is awesome, go there ...
Pros: HD superior audio,Circle Surround sound,CD,mp3,wma-capable player, selective AM FM tuner, 7 band EQ Cons: typical FM stereo to mono blend in weak areas
I received my JVC KD-HDR1 radio 2 days after its official release(3/13/06) on Wednesday (March 15th 2006) and installed it late that evening. To make a long story short, as far as the FM HD audio goes, it's impeccable. The broadcasters setup their audio ...
Pros: Great sound quality, multiple sources, reasonable price Cons: Remote not useful for HD radio
I got this CD player as a present because my new job was a fairly long commute. It is a significant upgrade over the factor system that I had before, and I have been completely blown away by the HD radio. This is my first foray into the whole "HD ...
Pros: Simple, neat mp3 player with HD radio and surround sound Cons: No front aux-input, hard to use volume control, and difficult to navigate menus.
This is a great CD player that has built-in HD radio. I wanted to change the stock audio player of my Honda Pilot 2003 that could not play mp3 CDs. I shopped around and found this mp3 player that could do HD radio as well. There are quite a few mp3 audio ...

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege. The Factory stereo worked well for the past 4.5 years with no issues until recently. The display started to blank out and the volume knob on-off switch would'nt respond. Problems I could have lived with, but would have ...
The Price is Right for this HD Radio! by qwikranger ,Jun 09 '07
Pros: Cost, HD Reception, Surround Sound Feature Cons: No easy way to adjust sound settings without creating your own equalizer setting.
The fact that JVC is putting out a CD deck that has a built-in tuner for less than $200 is incredible. As of today, it's the way to go to get a cost effective HD unit. I live in Galveston, TX (50 mi. south of Houston) and I get 33 HD stations, they are AWESOME! HD reception can go out in some spots, but overall so far the radio is great. The Surround sound feature they've built in is fantastic, it takes your 4 speakers and turns them into a smooth warm sounding masterpiece. The only catch is that it is hard to adjust the individual frequencies of treble, bass, and mids because you have to configure a user modified equalizer setting, there is no easy way to simply manipulate the settings.
Overall, you can't complain because for $199.99 or less depending where you buy, you get an HD radio before all your buddies and the sound out of this unit is just fantastic.
P.S. It has front, rear, and sub pre-outs, Sirius and XM ready (addl equip necessary), it can also support and iPod adapter (addl equip necessary) for direct iPod control.
GREAT value, HD radio sounds fantastic!!! by boeing377 ,Jan 20 '07
Pros: HD radio built in, MP 3 CD capability, good amps. Cons: very hard to use anything but tuning and volume without manual.
Sell your satellite radio stock now, HD radio is free and it sounds great, HUGE signal to noise improvement over analog modulation. I found over a dozen stations in my area and all but one was broadcasting two distinct HD stereo music channels with different songs playing. The downside of this JVC model is ease of use. Many buttons are microscopic and so are their labels. You need manual in hand to adjust the custom EQ settings. SRS is gimmicky audio trick but it works and sounds great even if it isnt real (synthesized quasi surround sound). CD plays MP3 CDs, a big plus for many users. Remote is IR not RF so you have to point it right at the set, prevents steering wheel mounting. The 20 watts RMS per channel is plenty for me, no need for external amps to get thumping bass. I am VERY happy with my purchase. Mine shows FM call letters and song titles, but not on all FM stations so previous reviewer might be right about it lacking RDS function. Go get one, if you live in range of HD broadcast stations you will love it. Great value here.
Pros: Ipod control, crisp sound, HD radio tuner built in, Cons: Slippery volume knob
I purchased this with an iPod adpator also. Radio works great. This is in a conversion hightop van and the sound is very clear and clean through the Ipod or HD radio. Many HD stations are available here so I enjoy a lot of HD2 radio. Ipod control is easy and pretty quick. Great radio for a great price. Takes some time to learn the control for Srs and eq settings but once you got them it really makes it sound even better. I plan on addding an amp in the near future for a little extra power. When the HD signal locks in it does seem to lower the volume some. Would highly recommend this unit.
Pros: Inexpensive HD radio and easy installation (with a Crutchfield kit). Cons: Hard to grasp volume knob and difficult to navigate i-Pod controls.
Paired with an i-Pod controller (about $50), this unit has it all at a lot less than any other car radio. I leave my i-Pod hidden away and plugged in all the time, so I have access to my music library, normal AM and FM, HD AM and FM, and an mp3 cd in the cd player. Those with a satellite radio subscription have even more options. The only annoyances are minor and worth the trade-off for all the music choices. The volume knob is short and slick, but that can be helped with a small flat rubber band placed around it. Navigation for a particular song on the i-Pod is cumbersome, so anyone that constantly searches through their library will get frustrated. The faceplate doesn't have fancy color graphics, but I don't need that distraction anyway. The sound quality is very good on my factory speakers. I purchased it at Crutchfield's and they made installation a breeze. One helpful hint: Don't forget to take out any cd's from your old unit before uninstalling it.
I have a former show car from a hifi retailer in Seattle. The head unit(cd) lasted 5 years and the changer lasted 10. Since the changer died I've been looking for a head unit to run my system. A friend had one of these and I thought the additional channels were cool. I purchased from Circuit City for 179.99 -40.00 mail in rebate. I am absolutely impressed with HD radio. I am always wary of cranking my tunes with the tuner because of the added distortion. Now I up to full volume and HD radio sound like an MP3. My only regret is the 2.5v preamp outputs. My Alpine had 4v out. The difference in HD radio and standard radio is very noticeble (especially in my amplified system. This is a great add to any system for under 200.00 dollars. I would recommend this to anyone (even my mother)
Pros: MP3 player... that's it. Cons: Everything about it. Terrible, weak, tuner.
This is the worst tuner I have ever bought. It has poor, poor, poor reception. I should have known with the 11.3dbf tuner it was going to be crappy. I really bought it for the HD radio feature. Maybe it works in the city right under the stations antenna... But nowhere else. I do live in the countryside here in Massachusetts, BUT, my stock stereo gets in 11 channels CLEARLY, and the rental moving van I used 2 weeks ago had perfect reception also with about 10 channels. This radio cannot even grab one single station. NOT ONE. I thought I had a bad antenna, I put my stock radio back in, and replaced the antenna, AND I GOT 12 CHANNELS. I will be going back to Pioneer which I should have bought to begin with, you can't beat a 8dbf pioneer digital tuner...
AM section on this hu is abysmal at best.
HD volume drops 6-9 db upon locking the hd sig.
Wait until the new chips come out this is still in the junk
stage. It might get better I say might.
